Welcome to NUFF 2020!
Time is racing, soon NUFF 2020 will start and you will be a part of it. Usually this is the time when you have bought your flight tickets and are probably eager for your first trip beyond the polar circle. Unfortunately, this is not possible this time. This makes me very sad, because this is always the day we are most looking forward to. Your arrival in Tromsø, the check-in at the hotel, the gathering of everyone at TVIBIT. All this will not be possible this year. And yet, and despite Corona, we are very excited to welcome you all at NUFF this year, albeit in a different way and under new conditions.
This year, we also have a small but dedicated team, which basically holds all the wires in its hands and will essentially be there for you.
28 participants from 14 different countries are involved in the workshop. Since everyone will stay where they live, the different time zones will be a challenge to work together. The different time zones stretch from Iceland to Russia with a difference of 5 hours. The participants will be divided into 7 groups with 4 participants each, placed in time zones close to each other, so that the cooperation can be better organised. The common time will be the local time in Tromsø, i.e. UTC/GMT +2. We have arranged all joint events in the afternoon/evening, so that no one has to work all night unnecessarily.
The goal of the workshops is still the same: Each group makes a short film from the idea to the finished film in 6 days! This is how we have done it for 17 years and this is how it will be this year. But how is that possible online? Only you will be able to answer the question at the end. It is an experiment!
As far as the production of the films is concerned, the given situation of spatial separation will have a significant influence on the structure of the films. First you will develop an idea in your group and write a script. Each group should conceive their film in 4 parts and each participant in the group will film their part where they are. Here we recommend to use low-key equipment, a smartphone would be sufficient. In the end, you will edit the 4 parts of your film together on Discord. This means that one person from the group will act as an editor on their own computer and finish the film together with the others. The deadline is on the morning of the 26th at 10:00 a.m. The films will be exported and made available to us. This process is mentored by 4 experienced professional filmmakers.
In addition, we will have a group of young local musicians with 2 professional mentors, who will produce the film music for each workshop film together with the participants.
The workshop will conclude with the presentation of each film at the opening event of the actual film festival on Friday, 26 June at 15:30.
Last but not least we will present the NUFF Hub, a 3D experience developed and designed by our NUFF-Digital team. On Mozilla-Hub you will have the possibility to log in individually and discover the virtual NUFF world with your own avatar. During the whole NUFF period there will be different rooms available where you can meet, where you can discover things about film and NUFF.
