NOTHING IS LIKE IT USED TO BE, EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT!

NUFF has been a meeting place for young filmmakers and an arena for "The Future of Film" for 17 years. With the current travel restrictions, quarantine requirements and practical uncertainties that the current situation entails, we have decided to make NUFF happen in a brand new way – while keeping the essence of the festival very much the same!NUFF will therefore take place entirely online this year, from June 19 to 28. You will be able to watch films from home, host a watch party virtually (or physically if you can!), interact with filmmakers and film professionals from your phone, smartphone or tablet, and a lot more! What has made NUFF successful for so many years is its core principles: empowering young filmmakers, and bringing film enthusiasts from all over the world together, to learn from one and collaborate on filmmaking projects. All of this will still happen during NUFF 2020 – not in physical form, but through digital platforms.

HOW WILL THAT WORK IN PRACTICE?

This year, more than 3000 films from 115 countries were submitted to NUFF, that’s a record! We are so excited to show you the 44 films we have selected for the two film competitions, the Nordic Competition (20) and the International Competition (24). The films will be avaiable as live-stream on Vimeo and YouTou in 11 programs at selected screening times from June 26 to 28. In addition but only for the local audience the films will be streamed live at the Verdenteatret Cinema in Tromsø. Please enter the program schedule here...

The second core of NUFF is the film workshop. This year, almost 40 participants registered! They shall still have the opportunity to participate in the new, digital version of the workshop, taking place from June 19 to 26. The participants will be divided in groups, have access to exclusive masterclasses, and benefit from a daily online follow-up with a mentor to make a short film. All of this in 6 intense days of filmmaking!

Additionally we offer seminars, masterclasses and social events during the festival.

The NUFF Hub An experience of a special kind. On a special website our Creative Technology Group has a 3D NUFF world where participants can stay, meet and experience NUFF in a new way.

Masterclass The filmmaker Marte Wold is one of this year's mentors at NUFF and will talk about her experiences with her latest documentary film "Letters", which she made together with the South Korean filmmaker Yero Yun. The film has a particularly topical relevance, especially for the NUFF workshop.

Seminar Our two music mentors, Kristian Svalestad and Sivert Hendrisken, will give an introduction to the world of film music in a seminar that will thus combine the film music workshop and the film workshop.

Discussion Since March of this year the film festival world has been turned upside down. Travel bans, assembly bans, closed theaters. Entire festivals have had to cancel or have been postponed until later. But more and more festivals are looking for creative alternatives. The question of when and whether the situation will return to normal is being asked. The future is uncertain. In this interview we invite some festival makers to talk about their experiences and discuss them with a broad professional audience.

The trip to the mountain A traditional NUFF event was not about to take place until someone had the idea to strap a mobile streaming unit on their back and make their way up the mountain alone and put it on the net at the same time. During the walk from the island of Tromsø over the bridge up to the mountain Fløya, the audience has the possibility to ask questions and make comments through a text chat. A digital substitute for a great arctic midnight sun experience.

The films made by the workshop participants will then be presented and screened online.

Where will I be able to watch the film?

We will update all relevant information related to the screening of films and online events on an ongoing basis. Check our website and/or Facebook page regularly!
