SURPRISE FILM NIGHTt
Surprise Film Night is a new happing at NUFF this year. Because
of time and screening limitations, several films that the pre-festival
jury liked didnt make it to the competition program. However, the
criteria for being shown at Surprise Film Night are a little
different. In the first screening we show the films that were closest
to making the competition program. In the second we have picked out films
almost solely based on originality. With other words, these are the films
that really stand out in a crowd.

Abduction
experimental fiction; Finland; 2003; 9'17''

actors: Topi Äikäs, Marja Mikkonen, Antti Takkunen
In Salmiac-Abduction we meet Topi, Marja
and Antti three friends that are spending their afternoon in commune
kitchen - talking together about ordinary student stuff like school works,
lack of money and tv-series. The funny afternoon is interrupted several
times with animation sequences from outer space. Even eating salted liquorice
cant prevent the abduction from happening. Salmiac-Abduction is
a film that is based on a true situation. We rebuilt the dialogue for
the film with the actors, based on discussions we had before, in this
same commune kitchen. Actors are acting themselves in that situation.
Salmiac-Abduction is our research to the borders of fiction, documentary
and dramaturgy.

FOREIGN VOICES
Seminar
Film is a universal medium that can bring
together and include all youths, independent of their background. But
is this necessarily the case? Nordic Youth Film Festival wants to discuss
the matter in a special Foreign Voices seminar. How easy is
it for youths with foreign background to get into already established
film groups? How are they received? Should these youths be extra taken
care of?
These are some of the questions we hope to answer in a special panel debate
in cooperation with Bob Benoni and InterInfo Tromsø. The meritted
short film Horse without shackles by Swedish Milad Alami will
be shown as an introduction. The Swedish director with Iranian background
will present the background of the movie and his own story. Afterwards
there will be a discussion with several Nordic persons with foreign background
on the panel, and chance to ask questions from the audience.
